BC House: White Work
The White Embroidery Work Moves to St John's House BC
In September there was great activity at St. John's House
BC as we got ready for Sister Jocelyn to arrive, bringing with
her the white embroidery department. Sister Doreen's sister
and brother-in-law, Bev and John, along with the supervisor
- Charlie, their cocker spaniel spent time building a table
for Sister Jocelyn - tall and wide and long!
Sister Jocelyn took no time at all settling in, and the room
quickly looked like it had always been a white embroidery work
room!
Making and embroidering altar linens is one of our oldest
ministries. We started doing this work in the 1880's shortly
after the Community was founded. Our altar linens are hand
made and embroidered, and most are custom made. Sister Jocelyn
has had a steady stream of orders since she arrived. We watch
in amazement as orders come in and the finished product goes
out! This is Sister Jocelyn with some of her finished work.
Sister Jocelyn is not only willing to make altar linens for whoever orders them, but would be pleased to meet with Altar guilds and talk about altar linens, their meaning and their care.
