Supporting the Work
of the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine
There are many ways that you can help support the life, ministry and work of the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine.
- We always welcome your prayers!
- You can become a part of the ministry of the Sisterhood by volunteering at the Convent or at St. John’s House in Victoria. Come as a guest or invite the Sisters to come and preach or lead a retreat or quiet day in your parish.
- Or you can help us financially through donations to the Sisterhood. Remember that this is our 125th Anniversary year. Consider making a tribute donation to the Sisterhood in our Anniversary year in thanksgiving to God for all the work of the Sisterhood throughout the past 125 years and looking forward to the future.
Here are some ways that you can make a donation to the Sisterhood.
- Write a cheque made out to the "The Sisterhood of St. John the Divine," or write a series of post-dated cheques. Post these cheques to the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine, 233 Cummer Avenue, Toronto, ON, M2M 2E8, Canada.
- Donations by Visa or Mastercard can be easily arranged by calling our Development office at the Convent and speaking with the Development Assistant Mary Balicka. Call 416-226-2201 ext. 322 and she will help you.
- Call contact Sr. Constance Joanna: phone 416-226-2201 ext 340, e-mail cj@ssjd.ca or write her at the Convent [contact page] to make a donation of securities or to discuss other donation options.
- Remember the Sisterhood of St. John the Divine in your will or name the Sisterhood as your beneficiary in your Insurance Policy so that the important work of the Sisterhood will continue in the future.
- Make a secure on-line donation through Canada Helps. (See information below regarding this option for secure on-line giving)
Canada Helps: Secure Online Donations to SSJD
The Sisterhood of St. John the Divine is pleased to announce that you can now donate online through "Canada Helps" (CanadaHelps.org).
CanadaHelps is a registered charity that processes secure online donations on behalf of Canada's 80,000+ registered charitable organizations.
It's very easy to donate: just click the "Donate Now!" button (or click here ») and you will be taken to the SSJD account page at CanadaHelps secure website.
You can follow CanadaHelps easy instructions to make your donation using any major credit card. You can make a donation in Memory of someone, as a Tribute to a friend, or set up monthly contributions. Within minutes of making a donation, you will receive an official electronic tax receipt emailed to you.
Important things to note:
- Your credit card will be charged to "CanadaHelps": that is what will appear on your statement, not "The Sisterhood of St. John the Divine".
- You will be receipted by CanadaHelps with an electronic tax receipt emailed to you: however, CanadaHelps will forward us your donor information so we can thank you personally. You can, however, make your donation anonymously if you wish.
- CanadaHelps charges us a 3% administration fee for each donation, which is very low by industry standards. We pay no start-up fees or monthly charges. You will be receipted for the whole amount of your donation. For instance, if you donate $25, you will be receipted for $25 and SSJD will receive $24.25.

- CanadaHelps is not intended to replace other methods of giving to the Sisterhood, just to make it easier for those who wish to donate online. If you prefer, there are other options - post-dated cheques, taking information over the phone, and so forth.

An Important Message for Our Donors
The Sisterhood of St. John the Divine places a high value on our relationship with you, our donors. Without your support we would not be able to achieve the mission God has given us to do. We
thank you for your commitment to help us in our
mission and ministry.
Transparency and accountability
are essential to continuing support from
our donors. Therefore, we have recently joined
Imagine Canada’s Ethical Code Program.
Imagine Canada is a voluntary organization responsible
for supporting charitable fundraising. It
does this by providing assistance and resources for
charities and ensuring that charitable organizations
are educated about following the policies of the
Canada Revenue Agency.
Recently, Imagine Canada developed The Ethical
Fundraising and Financial Accountability Code.
This code lays out a set of standards for charitable
organizations to manage and report their financial
affairs responsibly. By adhering to these standards,
we are complying with generally accepted
practices for soliciting and managing donor dollars.
